How to Block a Facebook Page from Posting on Your Facebook Page

If you’re a blogger with a Facebook page, you’ve no doubt gotten unwanted posts on your wall from other bloggers or businesses. Someone goes to your blog then posts on your wall their giveaway, etsy shop link, content, review, blog link that’s completely irrelevant. Unless it’s somehow VERY relevant to a discussion or question on someone’s wall, don’t do it.

This week, I had a Facebook first… I blocked another fan page from posting on my Facebook fan page. I don’t take this sort of thing lightly so keep reading for why I did it, how you can do it (should you ever need to) and what you should try before you go this route.

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt so the FIRST time this person left a post on my fan page about their event, I nicely said that many people consider that spam and may block them. I gave her a link to my post about Facebook Comment Vomit so she could see the ways that are generally considered no-nos. Trying to help.

Then she did it again. I AGAIN reiterated my point (maybe she never saw my first one) and forgot about it. Well, this week, she did it AGAIN. Same event, new month.

So I rolled up my sleeves and started the easy peasy steps to block her fan page from posting on my Facebook fan page ever again. And I also reported the post as Abuse. Take THAT.

You may want to block a fan page who posts abusive things on your page’s wall, a fan page who repeatedly posts irrelevant links to their blog on your wall or a fan page that tries to solicit followers from your page.

Here’s how to do it.

1. Find the comment that gets you so worked up you want to block that fan page from your page. Hover your mouse over to the right side of the post and you’ll see this little gear icon appear. Click on it.

2. (optional step) Before I banned this person, I reported their comment as abuse. I’m sorry but after I warn you twice and you post AGAIN. Yep, that’s abuse. Use this with caution… I’d send the person a polite message first telling them why what they posted is frowned upon before resorting to reporting them. While blocking someone from your page doesn’t affect them elsewhere on Facebook, reporting them as abuse just might so that’s why I say to use this with caution.

After you click on that wheel, you’ll see these options. If you decide this step is needed, then select “Report as Abuse” and follow the steps.

3. To block a page from posting on your wall, select “Remove Post and Ban Page.”

4. Once you do, this will come up. Think over it for a second or two and be REALLY sure you want to ban this user from your page. If so, click that blue button and be done!

Again, this is not something you’ll want to get click happy with and ban every single page that posts “Come follow my page since I like yours!!!!!!” But if you’re gutsy enough to rid the world of bad Facebook etiquette, then leave them a polite message explaining why it’s frowned upon. It’s when things get dirty that you may need to block them.
