Are You Keeping Up with the Recent Changes in Social?
Well hey there! My regular readers know it’s been a while since I posted… I’ve been knee deep in Pinning Perfect e-course updates (which are completely incredible by the way). Almost 200 NEW students have joined so come joooiiiinnnnnn ussssssss. That didn’t sound creepy at all.
I feel like the Internet basically exploded these last couple of weeks with updates (or upcoming updates) to various social media platforms. While they may be old news at this point, I thought I’d roll them into a ICYMI post. You know, just in case you missed it.
Instagram Analytics are coming soon
That’s right. Analytics are coming!
Brands who do paid media have had analytics for while, but now we will get data too!
Some things you will be able to see include:
- Gender and age range of followers
- Follow activity (how many you’ve gained on an hourly or daily basis)
- Your top posts sorted by impressions
Can we get a “hell yes!”? To learn more read this article about Instagram analytics.
Twitter makes things easier to tweet
Not too long ago, Twitter considered removing the 140 character limit and the internet went loco (me included). So, in an attempt to make Twitter not such a “somewhat impenetrable platform,” they are simplifying some of the tweeting rules.
The changes being rolled out:
- Videos, links, GIFs, and images not counting in the 140 character count (hallelujah!)
- Starting a tweet with @NAME will now be seen by all your followers, instead of just people who follow you both
At work, we’re anxiously awaiting those extra characters. And now I’ll have to figure out another way to spot an inexperienced brand community manager now that we’ll be able to start a tweet with a @. Hehe.
This article from the New York Times sums it up nicely.
Stickers are now on Snapchat
Okay, this one’s completely gratuitous, and if you use Snapchat, you most likely have seen them. I’ve been loving Snapchat lately. And it got even more fun with over 320 stickers to use on your snaps. I mean, who doesn’t need a crying pineapple chunk sticker?
Read more about the stickers here or just try them yourself!
And let’s hang out. (I’m looking slightly surprised here)
Pinterest changes its stance on affiliate links!
Early in 2015, Pinterest made waves by banning affiliate links… but they recently reversed their decision!
That’s right, Pinterest now allows affiliate links. What does that mean? Here’s an example: instead of linking to an article of a gift guide with links in it, you could actually create a board that’s a gift guide and link each pin directly to the product using your affiliate link.
The kicker is to check to make sure that whatever affiliate program you’re using doesn’t prohibit the use of Pinterest. Read Pinterest’s official announcement about adding affiliate links.
(And we’ll have a lesson added to Pinning Perfect in the next few weeks about affiliates on Pinterest. Sweet!)
What are you most excited about?
I’m curious… which bit of social media news excites you the most?
